Firearm safety is a very important part of learning to hunt and has become mostly second nature to seasoned hunters. This time of year it is always good to review the main rules of safety while using firearms.
Always keep the muzzle of a gun pointed in a safe direction.
A firearm should always be treated as if it is loaded.
Before shooting, know what is in front of and behind your target.
Do not put your finger on the trigger until ready to shoot.
Make sure you carry only the proper ammunition for your firearm and that the action and barrel are not obstructed.
Firearms should always be unloaded when not being used.
Do not point a firearm at anything unless you plan to shoot.
While a gun is loaded, do not climb, run or jump with it.
You should store ammunition in a separate place from firearms.
Before and during shooting, avoid alcohol.
Let’s all be sure to remember the rules of firearms safety so we can have another great season of hunting!
